    WHAT HAPPENED?

Kaizer Chefs were drawn to face Stellenbosch in the quarter-finals of the Nedbank Cup on March 8.

But the two sides will not meet at the Cape Winelads' home ground, the Danie Craven Stadium.

They will instead meet at Nelson Mandela Bay Stadium, and Stellenbosch coach Steve Barker is not happy about that.

    WHAT BARKER SAID

“Number one, I have to make it clear, I am very disappointed we can’t play a quarter-final of the Nedbank Cup in front of our fans. It is not good for us as a team, and it’s not good for our fans, so it is disappointing,” Barker told iDiski Times.

“Obviously, the first disappointment is not the first time, and it doesn’t seem like it’s gonna be the last time that there won’t be a stadium available for matches, so that’s disappointing.

“I believe the solution has to be found going forward, it’s just not conducive to continue not playing, even in your province and denying your fans that is a disappointment," added the former Pretoria University coach.

“Secondly, the other disappointment for me may be the league not finding a way to accommodate the fixture on Sunday. I don’t know what they could’ve done more; I just feel like, should it have been on the other foot, it would’ve been different. I am disappointed that we’re not playing a fixture like that here.”

    THE BIGGER PICTURE

Away from the venue issue, Chiefs' top priority would be winning the Nedbank Cup to end a decade-long trophy drought.

Amakhosi last won a piece of silverware in May 2015 when they lifted the Premier Soccer Legue title.

Getting past tricky Stellenbosch would boost their chances of reaching the final of the Nedbank Cup.

    WHAT NEXT?

For now, Chiefs' attention has been on facing Mamelodi Sundowns in a PSL match and hosting Magesi FC on Tuesday before concentrating on Stellenbosch.

On Tuesday as well, Stellenbosch clash with Marumo Gallants in Bloemfontein in what could prepare them for Amakhosi.
