    WHAT HAPPENED?

Kaizer Chiefs lost 1-0 away at Cape Town City on Sunday to start the year 2025 on a slow note.

It was a result that saw the Soweto giants miss the opportunity to get into the top-four in the Premier Soccer League table as they remain seventh.

The task to challenge Mamelodi Sundowns and Orlando Pirates for the league title is getting tougher for Amakhosi who are struggling for consistency.

Coach Nasreddine Nabi is not worried about the possibility of losing his job and insists on continuing with the methods he is using.

    WHAT NABI SAID

"It's been six months and we feel that regarding our game model, the team has changed, especially in how we play. The inconsistency of the result doesn't help," Nabi said as per KickOff.

"But if I was afraid for my spot [job], if I wanted, I could play a mid-block, play defensive, look for counter-attacks with Ashley Du Preez, who is very fast, and getting the result like that.

"But is it the DNA of this big club? No, we want this big club to play attractive football, attractive football means a lot of risks too," added the former Young Africans coach.

"We have to build on that, we have to believe on that, we're gonna continue to improve every day."

    THE BIGGER PICTURE

Under Nabi, Chiefs have managed just four wins in 11 league outings while drawing three and losing four.

They were also eliminated from the Carling Knockout by Mamelodi Sundowns at the quarter-final stage after recording a Last-16 win over SuperSport United.

Nabi's record so far appears not to be giving confidence that Chiefs will be an improved side this season after starting the term promisingly with two straight PSL wins.

    WHAT NEXT FOR NABI?

Nabi has the rest of the season to improve Chiefs and leave his bosses to tell if he would have laid a foundation to challenge for trophies next term.

There is also the Nedbank Cup to play for and if Amakhosi win it, Nabi is likely to have cult hero status guiding a team that last won a trophy in 2015 to silverware.
