    WHAT HAPPENED?

Golden Arrows completed a season double over Kaizer Chiefs with a 2-1 victory in a Premier Soccer League match at Moses Mabhida Stadium on Saturday.

The result was Amakhosi's 10th league defeat of the season and they remain stuck at position eight on the table.

The match saw Amakhosi captain Yusuf Maart miss a penalty while central midfielder Thabo Cele was forced out at half-time due to injury, leaving coach Nasreddine Nabi with some excuses.

    WHAT NABI SAID

“We feel we controlled the game in the first half and could have scored as we were in a very good moment but we didn’t,” Nabi told SABC Sport as per iDiksi Times.

“The injury of Thabo Cele in the first half, disorganised us a bit in the second half, in terms of liaising with the defence and attack, we didn’t start well in the second half.

“But the changes we made made us come back into the game, then we conceded a goal out of nowhere and after that it’s very difficult to come back from that.

“The fans of Chiefs need to understand… we feel we should have scored in the opening half when we had better moments and positive to create better opportunities, when you don’t score, it costs us," added the former FAR Rabat coach.

“It’s a very tough loss today and hard to accept. It puts the club and team in a difficult position and the fans of this club have no joy.”

    THE BIGGER PICTURE

After leading Chiefs to their 10th PSL match of the season, Nabi is edging closer to a grim record registered by former coach Arthur Zwane.

During the 2022/23 season under Zwane, Chiefs finished the campaign with 12 league defeats and that was a club record of the most league losses in a single term in the PSL era.

Nabi is left with seven games to avoid entering history books with an unwanted record.

    WHAT NEXT FOR CHIEFS?

Amakhosi will try to recover from their difficult run of form when they host tricky TS Galaxy next Saturday.

It is an opportunity to start salvaging their season and they also have the Nedbank Cup as a chance to end the term with some silverware, although they have Mamelodi Sundowns as a semi-final hurdle.
