  • WHAT HAPPENED?

Mamelodi Sundowns have been struggling for consistency in the ongoing 2025/26 season, where they are not getting positive results across all competitions.

They have already been knocked out of the MTN8 in the semi-final phase against holders Orlando Pirates.

The latest assignment was in the Premier Soccer League, where they drew 0-0 with Kaizer Chiefs at the FNB Stadium.

    THE BIGGER PICTURE

Lucas Ribeiro and Khuliso Mudau have been pushing for an exit in search of a new challenge.

It seems the Bafana Bafana international will stay put, but the same can't be said about Ribeiro, who has a running contract with the defending Premier Soccer League champions.

Following their unsatisfying performance against Amakhosi, coach Miguel Cardoso has now said Sundowns are rebuilding, but they will soon gel and deliver.

    WHAT CARDOSO SAID

“If you are really fair to everyone who works in Sundowns, the coaching staff, the technical department, the sporting director, you understand the team that played the World Cup is not the same team playing right now,” Cardoso opened up in the presser.

“The impact of the players that are absent is so big on this team that we need to rebuild, and rebuilding is done with a moment where players are still young.

"Last year, some of them didn’t play; we’re rebuilding and happy to do that, and pleased.

“We will arrive where we want to arrive, we know which direction we’re going, very well, believe me, and we’re so committed to that work; so strong inside the club, and we will become stronger with victories following one after the other.

It's our nature, it will happen," he concluded.

    WHAT NEXT?

Sundowns management doesn't tolerate coaches who don't deliver regardless of the situation at the club, explaining why Cardoso might be walking on a thin line.

The Portuguese has to push the players to deliver or risk getting fired.
