    WHAT HAPPENED?

Fiston Mayele has been consistent, getting double figures in the last six years, consecutively, while turning for AS Vita, Yanga SC, and now Pyramids.

In the two seasons he has played for the Egyptian side, the Democratic Republic of Congo international has scored 41 goals.

Mayele found the back of the net 18 times in the concluded campaign, as his team went on to win the Caf Champions League for the first time in their history.

  • THE BIGGER PICTURE

Mayele has been heavily linked to Chiefs where he will reunite with Nasreddine Nabi, who coached him at Yanga SC.

A couple of days ago, Mayele hinted he is done with Egypt and that he is ready for a new challenge elsewhere.

Amakhosi faithful were excited that they could now get their man, but according to a close friend and confidant to Mayele, the 30-year-old is not even considering the Premier Soccer League.

Christian Bukasa insists it is time for his 'brother' to chase the paper in Saudi Arabia, and that no team in Mzansi can afford him.

    WHAT BUKASA SAID

"He doesn’t want South Africa anymore, so I’m surprised that Mayele is still being linked to Chiefs up to now," he told KickOff.

"When Mayele wanted to come to South Africa, Chiefs turned us down and we moved on. The truth is that while at Yanga, he wanted to come to South Africa, but he was told about age, money, and so felt discouraged.

"He will not even come to Mamelodi Sundowns because the PSL chapter is gone. He now needs to make money and will move to Saudi Arabia, where his salary will be tripled before all other bonuses. We are talking proper money," Bukasa continued.

"At his age, he needs to make money for himself and his family, and the best destination for him next is Saudi Arabia, where talks are already ongoing with clubs there.

"What is the reason for coming to South Africa for less money now, when there is so much more for him in Saudi Arabia. He told me that he will only come here during the holidays to listen to 'Amapiano' and not to play soccer. For soccer, all the teams must forget, and this is the truth.

"In Africa, besides Pyramids, he can only play for Al Ahly," he concluded.

    WHAT NEXT?

Chiefs parted ways with Ranga Chivaviro a couple of weeks ago, and are chasing his replacement.

The Glamour Boys can now start looking elsewhere after Mayele snubbed them for the Middle East, where he has been linked with a move to Al Fateh.
