    WHAT HAPPENED?

Kaizer Chiefs are battling to secure a top-eight Premier Soccer League spot under coach Nasreddine Nabi.

That has put pressure on the Tunisian with a section of Amakhosi fans losing confidence in him just a season into his two-year contract, which has an option to be extended by a further term.

But former Chiefs and Orlando Pirates attacker Lehlohonolo Majoro has urged Amakhosi to be patient with Nabi while using as a reference Pitso Mosimane's rocky start as Mamelodi Sundowns coach before his tenure became a successful one.

    WHAT MAJORO SAID

“I think there’s still a long way for Kaizer Chiefs to go,” Majoro told iDiski Times.

“If they keep coach Nabi for longer, it will be a plus for them because if you can check with Sundowns, it allowed itself to have a rebuilding phase where they were building under Coach Pitso [Mosimane]. There was a time when Sundowns supporters were booing Coach Pitso, throwing bottles at him. That was when he was still building.

“He was building for three seasons, and then ever since those three seasons, Sundowns has evolved into becoming the team to beat in our league and also in Africa," added the retired footballer.

"Orlando Pirates, they also kept the coach for longer, and they gave themselves an opportunity to build. So the reason I’m saying Chiefs should keep coach Nabi for longer, it will also give them the opportunity to build."

    THE BIGGER PICTURE

Nabi's struggles at Chiefs have left him on the brink of matching or even surpassing Arthur Zwane's unwanted record of the most defeats in a season during the Premier Soccer League era.

Amakhosi are currently on 11 league losses this season, nearing Zwane's 12 defeats posted during the 2022/23 campaign.

That means if Chiefs lose the Soweto Derby to Orlando Pirates on Saturday, Nabi joins the former Bafana midfielder in this discouraging record.

    WHAT NEXT FOR NABI?

Amid all the difficulties Kaizer Chiefs have been enduring this season, Nabi can appease Amakhosi fans by winning the Nedbank Cup.

Interestingly, Amakhosi meet Pirates in the Nedbank Cup final on May 10.
