    WHAT HAPPENED?

Kobamelo Kodisang joined Mamelodi Sundowns before the start of last season but he struggled for game time at the Brazilians.

His situation became worse when he was excluded from the squad for the 2025 FIFA Club World Cup, sparking rumours that he will return to Portugal.

As initially reported by GOAL, Kodisang has been signed on a season-long loan by Portuguese top-flight league side AVS Futebol SAD

    WHAT KODISANG SAID

"It's good to be here and back in Portugal. It's actually like I never left. I arrived at an excellent club and now I'm going to try to give my best for AFS," said Kodisang on the AVS Futebol SAD website.

"The championship is very competitive and not easy. We always have to give our best, and we can't predict match results or the final standings. We have to give our all and try to finish as high as possible in the table.

"I'm someone who always tries to give my best, attacking and defending. I don't like to disappoint the fans. If they come to support us and encourage us, we have to give our all for them," added the Bafana midfielder.

"I can guarantee this: I will give my all in every game. I hope that's enough to make the fans happy. I'm a good professional. The most important thing is to always give my best. If I do that, I help the team. And if the team improves, we're all happy. There's no "I" in a team; there's a collective that has to work."

    THE BIGGER PICTURE

What could give Kodisang solace after a difficult 2024/25 season is that he will be playing top-flight league football in Portugal.

If he makes himself a regular and dishes out top performances, that could earn him a return to the Bafana Bafana squad.

This comes as South Africa are set to participate at the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations finals.

    WHAT NEXT FOR KODISANG?

The Portuguese top-flight league is no new ground for Kodisang who will be in familiar territory.

That could help him quickly adjust and regain his top form should he establish himself as a regular starter.
