Iqraam Rayners grabs brace to fire Mamelodi Sundowns to PSL top spot overtaking Kaizer Chiefs and Sekhukhune United after Magesi FC win

    The Brazilians went ahead ater 22 minutes when Kutlwano Letlhaku connected a cross from Thapelo Morena.

    It was further advantage for Masandawana, but time-wise, three minutes before the half-time break when Ghanaian midfielder Samuel Darpoh was red-carded following a second bookable offence.

    Iqraam Rayners then beat Magesi goalkeeper Elvis Chipezeze at the first attempt in the 66th minute and Morena was the provider again. 

    Rayners then grabbed his brace after coolly heading in an Aubrey Modiba delivery from the left wing on 74 minutes.

    While enjoying a comfortable lead, Masandawana were plunged into a setback when Themba Zwane walked off the pitch injured after 20 minutes on the pitch, having come on as a substitute.

    The contest ended with Sundowns securing a 3-0 win over Magesi.

    THE MVP

    The afternoon belonged to Rayners, who grabbed a brace and has now scored three league goals this season.

    He was composed in front of goal throughout his time on the pitch. 

    Morena, whose two assists gave Sundowns the two crucial goals, also had a good afternoon.

    Displaying his experience, Morena sent a message to Bafana coach Hugo Broos that he deserves to be back in the national team.

    THE BIG LOSER

    After just six matches into the 2025/26 season, Magesi are already flirting with relegation and have two points better than bottom-placed Chippa United. 

    If they remain like that, demotion would be real for the Limpopo-based outfit, which is yet to taste victory this season but have recorded three draws and as many defeats.

    WHAT COMES NEXT?

    Still unbeaten in this season's PSL campaign, Sundowns now prepare to visit Marumo Gallants on Wednesday as they seek to stay on the top of the tbale. 

    Magesi will be back in action on Saturday when they host Siwelele FC at Seshego Stadium.
