    THE BIGGER PICTURE

Mothiba is hoping to sign for Mamelodi Sundowns in the next couple of days.

The attacker has been training with Masandawana for the last week or so.

However, he will have to convince the technical team that he can be a valuable asset.

Coach Miguel Cardoso has now explained why he is not expecting the Bafana Bafana international to hit the ground running instantly.

    WHAT CARDOSO SAID

“Let me make it clear, Lebo Mothiba will not help the team because he’s not in good condition,” the Portuguese told the media.

“He comes from a long period of injury. So, we should not even think about him helping the team at the moment, he’s not in that process.

“He’s working with us but it’s a medium, long-term plan for him. He’s been without playing for one year after he had a big surgery, and he’s working on his condition, still many questions on the process.

"He’s a wonderful person and a wonderful player but everybody, even ourselves, we cannot put pressure on him," Cardoso concluded.

    WHAT NEXT?

Mothiba will have to work even harder to prove he is ready for action if he gets a chance at the club.

With the Premier Soccer League, Caf Champions League, Nedbank Cup and Fifa Club World Cup on the table, Downs need depth and experience to deliver.
