    WHAT HAPPENED?

The Toyota Cup returns and will be played for a second year running.

After hosting Young Africans in Bloemfontein last year, Kaizer Chiefs will now face Ghanaian giants at Moses Mabhida Stadium in Durban.

The match will be played on July 26 after the Soweto giants return from their pre-season tour of the Netherlands and Chiefs Marketing and Commercial Director Jessica Motaung explains why they opted to play against Asante Kotoko as their opponents this time around.

    WHAT MOTAUNG SAID

“We are honoured to welcome our friends from Ghana to South African soil," Motaung told the Chiefs website.

"Asante Kotoko are part of our shared history. The Toyota Cup allows Africa to unite through football and is a celebration of our legacy.

"Durban is not only the manufacturing hub of Toyota South Africa, but a perfect place to write the next chapter of our history after winning the Nedbank Cup in May at the Moses Mabhida Stadium."

    THE BIGGER PICTURE

The kind of preparations Chiefs are planning this pre-season leave them with little excuses in the event they falter in the new season.

After meeting top Dutch sides who are likely to be very testing opponents, the Soweto giants will then face Asante Kotoko who are two-time former African champions and record winners of the Ghana Premier League with 25 titles.

Chiefs fans would also be keen to watch closely the new players signed by coach Nasreddine Nabi when they are paraded at Moses Mabhida.
