    WHAT HAPPENED?

Former Kaizer Chiefs midfielder Abel Shongwe has responded to Mamelodi Sundowns and Orlando Pirates supporters who voiced criticism towards Amakhosi after their recent achievement.

The Naturena-based giants triumphed over Sundowns in a penalty shootout, after a goalless draw in the final of the inaugural Home of Legends Cup at Nelson Mandela Bay Stadium in Gqeberha on Saturday.

Having observed a section of fans poking fun at the Glamour Boys on social media, Shongwe has stepped up and emphasised the need for opponents to show more respect, insisting that defeating Downs is the top priority.

    WHAT WAS SAID

"Well done to Chiefs. The boys showed great cohesion and were able to contain Sundowns. I hope they can bring this winning mentality into their league matches," Shongwe told KickOff.

"At the end of the day, Kaizer Chiefs beat Sundowns. What remains is the fact that Sundowns lost to Kaizer Chiefs. It's not that these Chiefs players can't play, they can. Chiefs have a strong team, it's just a matter of their coach finding the right combinations to achieve victories.

"Kaizer Chiefs can play, they are not a small team. If you are playing for Chiefs, you should know that you are representing a team known worldwide,'' added Chacklas, as he was affectionately known.

"It's every team's dream to participate in such competitive games during the FIFA international break. As a Chiefs player, you want to win everything in your path to leave a legacy in the club's cabinet."

    THE BIGGER PICTURE

The Home of Legends Cup became the second trophy clinched by Chiefs this season, following their victory in the inaugural Cufa Cup against Marumo Gallants back in October.

Nevertheless, the Soweto giants were eliminated from the Carling Knockout competition by Sundowns just two weeks ago. Amakhosi's chances now lie in securing the PSL and Nedbank Cup titles, as they are the only remaining trophies up for grabs.

WHAT NEXT FOR CHIEFS & SUNDOWNS?

Chiefs will be aiming to enhance their performance after a lacklustre beginning to the season when the campaign recommences following the Fifa international break later this month.

Nabi's team has a meeting with KwaZulu-Natal outfit Richards Bay on Wednesday, November 27 at the New Peter Mokaba Stadium.

On the other hand, Sundowns are getting ready for their eagerly awaited Carling Knockout final against Magesi FC scheduled for this upcoming Saturday.
