    WHAT HAPPENED?

Kaizer Chiefs have reportedly signed Asanele Velebayi and Luke Baartman as free agents after Cape Town City were relegated from the National First Division.

But the Urban Warriors are contesting the moves and have approached the Premier Soccer League Dispute Resolution Chamber.

Amakhosi marketing director Jessica Motang has opened up on the issue.

    WHAT MOTAUNG SAID

"I think what's important is that we are in the business of doing things in a way that's not gonna interfere with other clubs. We wanna follow suit and procedures and that relates to any other players that we're looking at,” Motaung told reporters.

“So, we are taking a very professional approach in terms of integrating players into the team. We'll make sure that we only make announcements when the time is right.

"Watch the space, but certainly we can't be engaging on players who are still with teams or are still contracted, once there are any changes we'll make the announcements," she added.

“There's just a process and that process will be followed and once that process is done we'll make an announcement."

    THE BIGGER PICTURE

Velebayi and Baartman were rising stars when Spurs were in the Premier Soccer League during the 2023/24 season before being relegated.

But they went off the radar as the Urban Warriors were playing National First Division football last term, as Spurs were again demoted to the third-tier.

For players who were playing for a team that was relegated twice in successive seasons, Chiefs would be hoping they did not lose their confidence.

    WHAT NEXT FOR CHIEFS?

With the Soweto giants are waiting for the outcome of the case presented before the PSL Dispute Resolution Chamber.

Should the players be declared as free agents, they would be headed to start new lives in Gauteng.
