    WHAT HAPPENED?

Nasreddine Nabi has been complaining about the quality of the players Kaizer Chiefs have, insisting he wants to add those who meet his standards.

Last season, Amakhosi added 10 players to strengthen the team, but they ended up finishing ninth on the Premier Soccer League table, despite winning the Nedbank Cup.

    THE BIGGER PICTURE

Ahead of the new 2025/26 PSL campaign, the Soweto giants have added six more players: Ethan Chislett (Port Vale), Nkanyiso Shinga (FC Alverca), Flavio Silva (Persebaya Surabaya), Thabiso Monyane (Orlando Pirates), Paseka Mako (Orlando Pirates), and Siphesihle Ndlovu (SuperSport United).

Silva and Chislett have not met the fans' expectations, while Paseka Mako has yet to make his debut due to sustaining an injury.

Coach Nabi has lauded the management for their efforts and claimed that the club has good players, but some don't meet his specifications or the qualities he wants.

    WHAT NABI SAID

"What I said last season, maybe was a little bit misunderstood," the tactician opened up to the media during the 2025/26 Premier Soccer League launch.

"I wanted to emphasize that I was looking for profiles that can fit in my game model, but not that I didn’t have good players. I just wanted to clarify that.
"Secondly, we are heading into the new season with new players.

"The management has tried their best to get players, and we give them time, and we will see in the future if we have made good decisions, depending on how they will fit in the team and the game model," Nabi concluded.

    WHAT NEXT?

Amakhosi start their PSL season on Sunday with a tough game against Stellenbosch, who finished third last season.

Coach Nabi and his players are aware they can't afford to drop points if they are to challenge for the top positions in the 2025/26 edition.
