    WHAT HAPPENED?

Orlando Pirates head coach Jose Riveiro has mocked Kaizer Chiefs' 2-1 Nedbank Cup win on Saturday at the Moses Mabhida Stadium.

Chiefs finally laid their hands on a trophy after going without one for 10 years; however, Riveiro was not satisfied with the kind of football on display as Amakhosi dethroned the Sea Robbers.

    WHAT RIVEIRO SAID

“It was an ugly final from the beginning until the end, not much football, more of a physical battle, and in that battle they were better than us in the last part of the game," Riveiro said.

“Before the goal we had a couple of warnings that the goal could be close, and they managed to put one more goal in the net; that’s the summary of the game."

    WHAT IS MORE

The Spaniard said the game was ugly and had less quality compared to the Premier Soccer League Soweto Derby, which Pirates won last Saturday.

“We tried to correct a couple of things in our build-up, nothing special; it was a similar game to the game at FNB but with less quality and less football today, and again, congratulations to Chiefs; this one is for them,” he continued.

“Sorry to our players and to our fans, it’s one more final. We could not make it this time, but we will be back. There’s no last dance; there’s a game on Tuesday that we have to win.”

    THE BIGGER PICTURE

In his final season, Riveiro has failed to help Pirates defend a cup they won twice in a row during his time in charge.

With the Premier Soccer League dream looking distant, his farewell season with the Sea Robbers may end up without a trophy.

They came close to reaching the final of the Caf Champions League but were eliminated by Pyramids at the semi-final.

After winning the cup, Chiefs' season could be described as more successful compared to Pirates, who challenged on multiple fronts but may come up short in all of them.

    WHAT NEXT FOR PIRATES?

Pirates have played the least number of games in the league and are set to face Golden Arrows on May 13 before a match against TS Galaxy on May 17.

Two away games will then follow: matches against SuperSport United and AmaZulu on May 20 and May 24, respectively.
