    WHAT HAPPENED?

Golden Arrows co-coach Musa Bilankulu has detailed how he and Kagisho Dikgacoi masterminded a triumph over Nasreddine Nabi's Kaizer Chiefs in a Premier Soccer League encounter.

The KwaZulu-Natal team defeated the Glamour Boys 1-0 at the Moses Mabhida Stadium on Sunday afternoon, courtesy of former Orlando Pirates midfielder Gladwin Shitolo's second-half strike.

Entering the match seemingly regarded as the underdogs, Arrows managed to achieve an upset over Chiefs, and Bilankulu disclosed how they strategized before facing Nabi's team.

    WHAT BILANKULU SAID

"We knew it was not gonna be an easy game playing Chiefs where playing them at home and away. It's hostile with the number of fans, the quality of players they have, and with the great coach in Nasreddine Nabi and his technical team," Bilankulu told the media.

"We have been planning. Fortunately, we had a chance to watch them twice in one week after our game against AmaZulu. They played Cape Town City, we saw their set-up and possible line-up coming to this game. Even against Stellenbosch, the set-up was different.

"We planned for both - whether it's three at the back or four at the back. The team stuck to the tactical plan defensively and offensively. Finally, I am happy we got that one goal that was coming for a long time because we have been creating chances, but the conversation ratio was low," he added.

"Today, we told ourselves it doesn’t have to look pretty, we have to grind for the results because these three points are big three points from position 10. Staying down the log is very difficult and I believe the boys fought hard today."

    THE BIGGER PICTURE

Bilankulu was appointed as a co-head coach alongside Kagisho Dikgacoi following the exit of former Chiefs player Mabhudi Khenyeza in December last year.

With a victory over the Tunisian mentor's team, Abafana Bes'thende climbed from tenth to fifth place, pushing Chiefs down to sixth in the PSL standings.

The Soweto giants have been inconsistent since the beginning of the season, creating pressure on the 59-year-old tactician.
