Former Orlando Pirates coach Fadlu Davids handed dream start as Raja CA leapfrog ex-Mamelodi Sundowns star Thembinkosi Lorch's Wydad AC

Two goals scored in either half saw Davids' side register a crucial victory, which means his second stint with the Moroccan side has started in a way he would have preferred. Apart from winning, Raja managed to keep a clean sheet under the new regime led by the South African.

    Dream start

    Former Orlando Pirates assistant head coach Fadlu Davids has started his stint with Moroccan giants Raja Casablanca on a positive note after beating Difaâ El Jadidi 2-0 on Sunday.     

    This is Davids' first game in charge since he was confirmed as the new man in charge of the club.

    First win

    Marouane Lemzaouri scored an own goal in the 15th minute to hand Fadlu's side a lead.

    The away side doubled the lead in the 69th minute when Ismail Khafi struck.   

    This is a big win for Fadlu and his team since the three points collected have propelled them to the second position in the standings of the Botola Pro league. However, they might find themselves top if Maghreb Fez lose their respective game tonight.  

    The win has also pushed Raja above Thembinkosi Lorch's Wydad Casablanca, who are sixth. Wydad will be in action later tonight as they are set to face Renaissance Zemamra.

    Davids' arrival

    The South African tactician was appointed to replace Lassaad Chabbi, whom Raja Casablanca had earlier said they parted ways with on a mutual agreement.

    This is the second stint Fadlu is having with the Moroccan outfit, having been part of it before when he served as an assistant coach.  

    The former Simba SC tactician was part of history-making Raja Casablanca in the 2023/24 season when they secured both the league title and the coveted Throne Cup.

    Fadlu assembled familiar faces to make up his technical bench; former Pirates performance analyst and interim assistant coach Darian Wilken serves as an assistant coach, while Wayne Sandilands is the goalkeeper's coach. Sandilands is an experienced coach in that area, given that he served Pirates at one time in the same capacity. 

    Mueez Kajee is the video analyst, and Durell Butler is the fitness trainer. 

    After being overshadowed by Young Africans SC in Tanzanian competitions, Fadlu just hopes to have a far more successful campaign with his new employers in another territory.

    Next test

    Meanwhile, the former Simba SC coach will be looking for his second straight win when his club plays Maghreb Fez on October 3.
