    WHAT HAPPENED?

Former Orlando Pirates and Mamelodi Sundowns star Teko Modise has revealed his wish that Kaizer Chiefs win this year's Nedbank Cup.

The domestic competition is heading to the semi-finals, although the quarter-final clash between Mamelodi Sundowns and Sekhukhune United was postponed.

To reach the last four, Bucs saw off SuperSport United on penalties, while Chiefs advanced by eliminating Stellenbosch.

Now Modise has explained why he would like Chiefs to emerge victors this season.

    WHAT MODISE SAID

“Yes, please! We need them to win a trophy this season," the retired Bafana Bafana midfielder said when asked if he wants Kaizer Chiefs to win the Nedbank Cup.

“Look, no one expects them to go far, which is exactly why they might just surprise everyone. We need someone to shake things up," the former South Africa captain added.

    THE BIGGER PICTURE

In the semi-finals, Kaizer Chiefs are set to meet the winner of the match between Sundowns and Sekhukhune United. On the other hand, Orlando Pirates, the defending champions, will tackle Marumo Gallants.

As Chiefs and Pirates remain in the competition, it means there is a high probability of the Soweto Derby being played in the final. Should that happen, Amakhosi fans would rejoice if Chiefs win and succeed their traditional arch-rivals as the cup champions.

Although Modise hopes to see a Chiefs victory in the end, the Soweto giants have been inconsistent. They are without a win in their last two games, having dropped points in a 0-0 PSL draw against Cape Town City.

What followed was a shocking 2-0 defeat at the hands of struggling Richards Bay. After the loss, head coach Nasreddine Nabi blamed the congested fixture for their struggle.

    WHAT NEXT FOR CHIEFS?

After the humbling defeat against Richards Bay, Amakhosi will return to action after the international break with a match against Golden Arrows on March 30.
