  • WHAT HAPPENED?

Kaizer Chiefs fell 2-1 against Orlando Pirates in the Premier Soccer League's Soweto Derby on Saturday at the FNB Stadium.

Glody Lilepo's initial strike was cancelled by Evidence Makgopa and Relebohile Mofokeng.

It was a fifth consecutive loss against Bucs in as many recent meetings across all competitions.

The Glamour Boys' former winger Junior Khanye has now pointed out where it went wrong for the hosts.

  • WHAT KHANYE SAID

"Orlando Pirates allowed Kaizer Chiefs to build up. Also, marking Kaizer Chiefs zonally in the midfield. If you look at Mdu[Mduduzi Shabalala], you look at [Yusuf] Maart, and also this guy [Nkosingiphile] Ngcobo, they had all the time on the ball," he told iDiski Times.

"But they were not effective. They had so much ball possession. They could’ve hurt Orlando Pirates if they were quality players. How many clear-cut chances do they create? Yes, it’s only this ball the goalkeeper piled away whereby Maart made a run, deep run, and [Pule] Mmodi played him, and then he had to cross. And then the other one [Tapelo] Xoki wanted to clear, and the goalkeeper made a save.

"But none other than that, Kaizer Chiefs, how many chances did they create? They pretended as if they were a good side in the first 20 minutes," Khanye concluded.

    THE BIGGER PICTURE

Chiefs' target of playing in the MTN8 next season now hangs in the balance.

They are currently placed ninth on the table with 30 points from the 26 games played.

To stand a chance of finishing in the top eight, the Glamour Boys have to win their remaining two games and hope teams above them drop points.
