    WHAT HAPPENED?

Kaizer Chiefs opted against extending Itumeleng Khune's contract at the end of the 2023/24 season.

They signed TS Galaxy and Rwanda international Fiacre Ntwari as his replacement.

The Amavubi star was to be deputised by Bruce Bvuma and Brandon Petersen.

    THE BIGGER PICTURE

BelgianNtwari failed to instill confidence at Chiefs, after struggling to keep clean sheets.

In the seven matches he played for the Glamour Boys across all competitions, Ntwari conceded 11 goals and avoided conceding just once.

He was eventually demoted, with Petersen and Bvuma getting their chances.

Rwanda coach Adel Amrouche, who served as the general director at newly crowned Belgian champions Royale Union Saint-Gilloise, has since defended the 25-year-old, terming him the best on the continent.

    WHAT AMROUCHE SAID

“He plays well with his feet, he is tall, and has good reflexes. He gives confidence to the defence," he said as quoted by FARPost.

“His behaviour is exemplary and he’s very positive within the team and demonstrates a high level of professionalism.

“He’s really the future, not only for Rwanda but for African football as well. Besides his technique and how well he plays with the ball, he has a good personality. I honestly think he can be one of the best goalkeepers in Africa," Amrouche concluded.
