    WHAT HAPPENED?

Relebohile Mofokeng has been linked with a move to Europe, with Barcelona, Israeli giants Maccabi Haifa and Maccabi Tel Aviv, as well as Major League Soccer side FC Cincinnati, said to be interested in him.

Former Kaizer Chiefs defender Lucas Radebe feels that the Orlando Pirates attacker is ready to go and play in Europe.

    WHAT RADEBE SAID

“I think he’s ready [to go to Europe],” Radebe told iDiski Times.

“For me you don’t need five, 10 seasons in the PSL to be able to go. You know you need two great seasons like Rele is doing because they can improve.

"They can even do better. You know he can develop easier at this stage where he can go and as early as possible. That’s what we need," added the former Bafana Bafana and Leeds United captain.

“I believe people like Siphiwe Tshabalala, people like Yeye Letsholonyane they could have gone overseas, our goalkeeper Itu [Khune] they could have gone a long time ago but staying at a club for a longer period doesn’t help.

“For me I believe they must go as young as they can.”

    THE BIGGER PICTURE

Mofokeng has played Premier Soccer League football for the past three seasons and the last two have seen the 20-year-old turning himself into a key Pirates player.

He has also made a break into the Bafana Bafana fold and is slowly establishing himself as an important national team player.

The midfielder's father, Sechaba, also believes it is high time his son moves to Europe.

    WHAT NEXT FOR MOFOKENG?

Anything should be expected during this transfer period regarding Mofokeng making a move or not.

He will be entering a season in which he needs to remain at the top of his game and enhance his chances of going to the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations finals with Bafana in December.
