    WHAT HAPPENED?

Bafana Bafana coach Hugo Broos named his final squad for the upcoming 2026 Fifa World Cup qualifiers.

South Africa host Lesotho on March 21 before facing Benin away from home four days later in these Group C assignments.

Burnley forward Lyle Foster was selected by Broos, but the 24-year-old is now a fitness concern.

His club coach, Scott Parker, gave an injury update about the player who picked a knock during a Championship match against West Bromwich Albion on Tuesday.

It was a game in which Foster came on as a 63rd-minute substitute but was taken off with three minutes to go.

    WHAT PARKER SAID

“We just need to check on him, but he's improved drastically from the other night,” Parker said, as per Burnley Express.

“Maybe there was an option not to bring him off, but we only had one more sequence of subs remaining, so I didn't want to run the risk of bringing two on and then Lyle couldn't go there.

“But he's coming better today, so we'll see where we are tomorrow with Lyle to know exactly where we are.

“It depends really. I think if he's not fit for the weekend, then it's probably highly unlikely that he would travel," added the former Chelsea star.

“I suppose it would just depend on timescales of where we see it. Again, we'll make that call and we'll see where we are with Lyle.”

    THE BIGGER PICTURE

Burnley visit Swansea for a Championship match on Saturday, and it is a match that could give Broos a clear picture if Foster is fit.

If the former Orlando Pirates forward is not match fit, Broos would be forced to replace him and would likely call Tshegofatso Mabasa or Evidence Makgopa.

    WHAT NEXT FOR BAFANA?

Bafana players are expected to start trooping into camp on Monday and it is to be seen if Foster will be part of that group.

They are second in Group C and pushing to go on top of the table.
