During the announcement of PSL's partnership with the betting company, the league and its partner did not unveil the new trophy as expected.

    WHAT KHOZA SAID

"Another important thing we did not talk about during the announcement of the new sponsor was the trophy. The trophy is going to take a very unique journey because it is a trophy that has got a lot of history and cultural elements around, so, It’s going to take a bit of time to finalize," Dr. Khoza told the media.

"It's a story on its own, it’s a journey of its own and when we say to the members of the fourth state, watch this space, because it’s something monumental, something historical, something the best to come out of this country.

"The essence of the journey that is going to be undertaken in finalizing the trophy, it is going to capture the essence of who we are as South Africans, the best we can get out of this country," he added.

"So, I am saying to the members of the fourth state that you will be invited when that journey starts, to share with you the development of that journey, the traveling of that journey, and ultimately to the day we finalize the issue of the trophy, so watch this space."

During the conference, Dr. Khoza also announced that this season's PSL title winners will receive a hefty R20 million cheque.

Orlando Pirates are currently at the summit of the standings having won their seven opening league matches. Meanwhile, Mamelodi Sundowns are placed in second spot.

Kaizer Chiefs, under a new technical team led by Tunisian coach Nasreddine Nabi, have also shown a glimpse of improvement this season but they seemingly are not contenders for the title.
