    WHAT HAPPENED?

Yusuf Maart has been serving Kaizer Chiefs for the last three seasons following his move from Sekhukhune United.

His best campaign, arguably, was the 2024/25 one when he scored the winning goal as Amakhosi beat Orlando Pirates in the Nedbank Cup final.

It was the first silverware for the Glamour Boys after a decade-long drought.

    THE BIGGER PICTURE

The 29-year-old's contract with the Glamour Boys expired last season, but the management rewarded him with another deal owing to his contribution in Nasreddine Nabi's debut in Mzansi.

However, his exploits attracted the Australian top-tier outfit SV Ried, who are now keen on securing the services of the versatile midfielder.

The skipper is reportedly waiting on his Visa, explaining why he didn't join his teammates for their pre-season trip in the Netherlands.

It is a massive move, according to Doctor Khumalo, but he believes the Soweto giants will miss him.

    WHAT KHUMALO SAID

“Let me congratulate Yusuf because that’s a very lucrative one,” the Amakhosi legend said on Soccerzone.

“As a player, you need to have ambitions to play outside the country. I think it’s going to be a different Kaizer Chiefs because Maart played 90% if not 98% of the games for Kaizer Chiefs," Khumalo continued.

“Who will forget the very crucial goal he’s scored in the Nedbank Cup [final], and I think everything was probably centred around him, because he was also carrying the armband.

“But then again, there is nothing anyone can do about it if he needs to go, it’s okay, let it be. But Chiefs are going to look so different, wait for it," he concluded.

    WHAT NEXT?

Amakhosi have signed six players, among them two midfielders, Siphesihle Ndlovu and Ethan Chislett, who are expected to be drafted straight into the starting team.

Maart's potential exit might give him a new environment, which might see him improve his game to force his way into the national team once again.
