    WHAT HAPPENED?

Yusuf Maart's Kaizer Chiefs exit could be imminent after the Amakhosi captain did not travel with his teammates to the Netherlands for the pre-season, according to FARPost.

Chiefs left the country on Thursday for Europe, and one key face was missing: Maart, who recently extended his contract with the Glamour Boys.

    WHAT IS MORE

Chiefs are expected to be in the Netherlands until July 19, but their fans might now have a new concern to worry about: Maart's future.

The Nedbank Cup-winning captain has been linked with a club in Austria and is understood to be in South Africa awaiting his visa before embarking on his separate journey to Europe.

    THE BIGGER PICTURE

The former Sekhukhune United captain became a hero for the Amakhosi nation when he lifted the Nedbank Cup, ending a decade-long wait for a trophy at Naturena.

He scored the winning goal as the Glamour Boys beat their archrivals, Orlando Pirates, to win the domestic competition. Beating the Bucs and lifting the cup was a symbolic achievement for Amakhosi, as they did that to deny their Soweto rivals a third straight Nedbank trophy.

Apart from Nasreddine Nabi, Maart was also criticised last season as they struggled in the Premier Soccer League, where they finally finished in the ninth position.

Nabi, meanwhile, has already had his midfield department strengthened with the signing of Siphesihle Ndlovu.

Ethan Chislett, Flavio Silva, Thabiso Monyane, Paseka Mako, and Nkanyiso Shinga are the other new signings for Nabi.

    WHAT NEXT FOR MAART?

Maart's reported exit is another piece of news that the Amakhosi fanbase will follow keenly to see how it will eventually pan out.

His exit will mean the end of a rather short era, as the skipper joined Chiefs in 2022 and leaves before his contract ends.
