    WHAT HAPPENED?

Safa president Danny Jordaan was arrested on fraud and embezzlement charges and appeared before a court on Wednesday.

Coincidentally, it was the same day the Premier Soccer League met in Sandton to elect members of the executive committee while Orlando Pirates boss Irvin Khoza was unopposed as chairman.

With Khoza now set to clock 25 years at the helm of the PSL by the end of his new term, he has paid tribute to Kaizer Chiefs chairman Kaizer Motaung's hard work over the years.

    WHAT KHOZA SAID

“[Motaung's] investment in the formation of the PSL was much higher,” said Khoza as per Sowetan Live.

“Brother K, thank you for your dependability. Before I call you on the podium, I have never done this before in the committee, but you have worked for SA football," Khoza said.

“So, I would like to ask the members of the Exco [executive committee] to grant me permission to grant Dr Motaung R2m to spoil himself," the Buccaneers boss added.

“Dr Kaizer Motaung has worked hard for himself. I know the pain and agony you went through to build an institution like Kaizer Chiefs and the NSL. May God bless you.”

    THE BIGGER PICTURE

Pirates' Khoza lavishing Chiefs' Motaung with money and praise shows a unity in league administration that has not been reflected in the broader corridors of power in South African football administration.

Safa and the PSL have clashed repeatedly over the years on a number of issues, from referees, to the national team, to fixture calendars and even financial matters.

However, it is notable that on the very day Jordaan found himself in the dock, Khoza was able to publicly display the league's unity and wealth.

    WHAT NEXT?

While Motaung and Khoza are showing a united face at the PSL, Jordaan finds himself loosing his grip on Safa.

Jordaan's position as Safa President must be at risk considering the legal charges he faces. But, despite the speed with which he was arraigned, commercial crime cases are often drawn out affairs as legal teams fight over administrative details to prove guilt, or innocence.

It will likely be months, if not years until a verdict is given but Jordaan's position at Safa will surely prove untenable before then.
