    WHAT HAPPENED?

Kaizer Chiefs have been struggling for consistency in the Premier Soccer League this season.

One of the areas that has let them down is the midfield since most of the players there are inexperienced.

Coach Nasreddine Nabi has been complaining about lack of experience insisting the team has to get quality in the January transfer window.

    THE BIGGER PICTURE

Bongani Zungu has been one of the players available since his exit from Sundowns.

He helped the then Rhulani Mokwena-led team win two Premier Soccer League titles in the two seasons he was at the club and the inaugural African Football League.

Despite his heavy links to the Soweto giants, the latter didn't act and recently, Zungu was signed by AmaZulu.

It is a move that has not gone down well with former South Africa goalkeeper Brian Baloyi who insists Zungu could have added Chiefs massive value.

    WHAT BALOYI SAID

"I've said it in the last six months, that's the type of player Chiefs should have signed. I don't know what they are thinking. When you're looking at the young players they have, you need to blend experience with youth," Baloyi told Metro FM Sports.

"A lot of those youngsters can learn from Bongani and not only that, there's still a lot that he can give. Look at the Bongani now, Rulani even sometimes played him in defence. It shows you he has evolved to become a better player, defensively as well. That's the type of player you need.

"At Chiefs, you need big players, big characters, big-name players. For Chiefs to thrive, you need no less than five big-name players," he concluded.

    WHAT NEXT?

After joining AmaZulu, Zungu has everything to play for and prove his doubters wrong.

Amakhosi drew 1-1 recently against TS Galaxy, a result that prompted Nabi to make a public request to Motaungs regarding getting better and quality players.
