  • WHAT HAPPENED?

Sekhukhune United are, surprisingly, leading the race for the Premier Soccer League with 16 points from the six games played.

Their recent 3-1 win over Kaizer Chiefs underlined their seriousness since, prior to the game, Amakhosi had not conceded even one goal in the previous five matches.

    THE BIGGER PICTURE

In the last couple of games, it is Mamelodi Sundowns who have been setting the pace for the other PSL teams.

However, they have found it a bit tough to get to the top; they are currently second on the table with 15 points, one less than Babina Noko, who have played a game less.

On Wednesday, they were held to a 1-1 draw by Marumo Gallants, who missed some good chances to steal three points.

Orlando Pirates have registered nine points from five outings but are still regarded as the PSL challengers as well.

    WHAT TINKLER SAID

Sekhukhune coach Eric Tinkler is convinced Babina Noko can surprise many by going all the way, at the same time taking a jibe at Masandawana, who held the top position 'for hours.'

“I think we’re on the right path to win the league because of the results we’re achieving,” he told the media.

“Everybody spoke about Sundowns being poor, but Sundowns were on top of the league for a couple of hours.

“The fact is that we’re going to compete against Mamelodi Sundowns, even though they’ve gone through tough times, but that’s not the reason for their poor results," Tinkler concluded.

  • WHAT NEXT?

Another tricky outing is coming on Saturday against Golden Arrows, who have been blowing hot and cold this season.

It will be vital for Babina Noko to collect another win to prove they are serious in their bid to win the PSL crown.
