    TELL ME MORE

Mamelodi Sundowns started brightly, with Peter Shalulile testing Washington Arubi early and firing another effort just over the bar. Marumo Gallants responded with a chance of their own as Daniel Msendami volleyed wide after a slick pass from Sekela Sithole.

The breakthrough came in the 27th minute when Marcelo Allende whipped in a cross for Iqraam Rayners to head home his fourth league goal of the season. Sundowns looked in control, but Gallants found a way back.

Ten minutes before the break, Ndabayithethwa Ndlondlo’s ball deflected off Keanu Cupido for an own goal - Sundowns’ first concession since the season opener, as the sides eventually went into halftime level at 1-1.

Miguel Cardoso injected fresh legs into the Sundowns attack at the start of the second half, introducing Aubrey Modiba and Tashreeq Matthews to ramp up the intensity.

Arthur Sales remained a constant threat, forcing a sharp save from Arubi, who stood tall in several key moments. Khuliso Mudau also made his season debut, adding pace down the flank as Masandawana pushed forward with a high line, consistently probing the Gallants box.

Although the visitors controlled possession for much of the second half, they were unable to break the deadlock, with the game ending 1-1 and leaving Sundowns to settle for second place on the PSL standings.

    THE MVP

Ndlondlo was a commanding presence in midfield, dictating the tempo and consistently outmanoeuvring Sundowns throughout key phases of the match. The former Orlando Pirates midfielder's control and composure gave Gallants a noticeable edge in the middle of the park.

    THE BIG LOSER

Despite dominating possession and relentlessly pressing for a late winner, Sundowns couldn’t find a way past Gallants’ resilient defence, ultimately falling short of reclaiming top spot on the log.

    WHAT’S NEXT FOR SUNDOWNS?

Masandawana will turn their attention to their next league clash as they prepare to host Durban City at Lucas Moripe Stadium on Saturday, 20 September.

Gavin Hunt’s charges have made a solid impression in their maiden top-flight campaign, collecting 11 points from six outings and showing early signs of promise.
