    WHAT HAPPENED?

The 47-year-old signed a two-year deal with Kenya, hoping to help them qualify for the 2026 Fifa World Cup.

    THE BIGGER PICTURE

Reports have it that McCarthy would take home $62,000 (Ksh8 million or R1,44 million) per month in salary and bonuses during his time in charge of Harambee Stars.

It was a massive salary for the former Manchester United Strikers' coach.

However, FKF's Communications and Medial Liaison Officer Jeff Kinyanjui has refuted the claims, insisting the tactician is not being paid that much.

  • WHAT KINYANJUI SAID

"There have been false reports claiming Benni McCarthy will be earning Ksh 8 million a month. To be clear, this is inaccurate," he posted.

"The coach’s salary is paid by the government and falls under the Salaries and Remuneration Commission (SRC) guidelines. Even the entire technical bench does not earn such an amount collectively.

"Let’s uphold responsible reporting and avoid misleading the public. Spreading misinformation not only misguides fans but also distracts from the real work of supporting our national team. Let’s focus on facts and back the team constructively," Kinyanjui concluded.

    WHAT NEXT?

McCarthy has a massive task to help Kenya realise her potential after recent struggles in the international scene.

The first task will be to help them get a positive outcome against Gambia and Gabon in the 2026 Fifa World Cup qualifiers.

He will also be rebuilding the team to play in the Chan competition that will be co-hosted by Kenya, Tanzania and Uganda.
