Bafana Bafana drew 1-1 with the Super Eagles of Nigeria in Group C's FIFA World Cup qualifier that was staged at the Free State Stadium, in Bloemfontein, on Tuesday night.

In another pool game played on the same day, challengers Benin also registered a 4-0 win over Lesotho.

South Africa are now on 17 points, three more than the Cheetahs, who are second.

    THE BIGGER PICTURE

Lesotho and Nigeria have been pushing FIFA to deduct three points from South Africa for fielding the suspended Teboho Mokoena against the Crocodiles in March.

FIFA hinted they might not deduct Mzansi three points, but Benin are clinging to that hope to get their maiden World Cup slot.

Coach Gernot Rohr is wondering why it has taken the World Football Governing Body a long time to act.

    WHAT ROHR SAID

"If everything goes well, we’re level on points with South Africa, who should lose three points according to the regulations, because of that player who wasn’t eligible to play," he told the media.

"So I don’t understand why FIFA hasn’t made a decision yet, but it’s very clear.

“The Eagles' regulations are very clear on this. At that point, we’ll be level with South Africa, and anything is still possible,” Rohr concluded.

  • AND WHAT IS MORE

The country is now pressuring even CAF to act on the matter.

    WHAT NEXT?

After collecting a point on Tuesday, Bafana Bafana now need at least a point against Zimbabwe in the next outing to get the World Cup ticket for the first time since 2010.

It will be a massive achievement for the country whose football has been growing gradually in the last couple of years.

However, the fans and stakeholders are waiting to see if, indeed, FIFA will deduct Bafana Bafana points for the Mokoena mistake.
