    WHAT HAPPENED?

Nigeria and Lesotho have been hoping that South Africa will be punished for fielding the suspended Teboho Mokoena in the game against the Crocodiles played in March.

However, to date, nothing has been done by FIFA despite the qualifiers nearing their conclusion.

  • THE BIGGER PICTURE

Bafana Bafana host Nigeria on Tuesday in Group C's FIFA World Cup qualifier that will be played at the Free State Stadium.

South Africa have 16 points, meaning a win against the Super Eagles will kill the West African nation's slim hope of qualifying.

Prior to the game, Sports Minister Gayton McKenzie confidently stated that their rivals have no case against Mzansi.

It seems FIFA have now hinted they will not take action.

  • WHAT FIFA SAID

"Two more teams could secure [ticket for 2026 FIFA World Cup] today!" They posted.

"Egypt will qualify if they beat Burkina Faso, while South Africa will qualify if they beat Nigeria, and Benin fails to beat Lesotho."

  • WHAT NEXT?

South Africans can now turn out in large numbers to cheer their team to victory.

Since 2010, the country has not played in the FIFA World Cup; this is a massive opportunity for them to motivate players against a top Nigeria side.
