    WHAT HAPPENED?

In what is considered bad news for Bloemfontein Celtic fans, Siwelele FC chairman Calvin Le’John has clarified that he has no intention of buying the club's naming rights.

Le’John, who is the son of Gayton Mackenzie, the Sports, Arts, and Culture Minister, has stressed that he was in no way going to purchase Phunya Sele Sele's naming rights for R5 million from Eddie Modise.

    WHAT LE'JOHN SAID

"The name Bloemfontein Celtic? I cannot buy a name for 10% of the club's value. R5 million for a name? Personally, I can't. That's what people who have tried to buy the name before me [were told]; that was the asking price," Le'John said while speaking on 94.7's Marawa Sports Worldwide (MSW).

    WHAT IS MORE

Meanwhile, Le’John also revealed the behind-the-scenes process of purchasing the Premier Soccer League status of now-defunct SuperSport United.

He also clarified the amount of money he splashed to acquire Matsatsantsa.

“So even when we went to SuperSport, they've got no debts. So we went in with the full R50 million, and we said, ‘Guys, here’s our bid for the team,’ and we won,” he added.

“I don’t have R50 million just lying around. I sold our properties on the coast. I sold some properties in Sandton to fund the project. To fund the liquidity of the team, I sold some shares to a consortium of one of our diamond mines in the North West for the sum of R90 million."

Rumours had it that the minister's son purchased SuperSport at R70 million, but he has denied such rumours.

“That’s a blatant lie. I know nothing about that,” he concluded.

    THE BIGGER PICTURE

Bloemfontein businessman Modise has made it known that he plans to purchase an NFD club and then promote it to the PSL.

Siwelele are set to debut in the top flight as a new chapter that marks the end of SuperSport United, an iconic PSL club, begins.

SuperSport United's sale to Siwelele was one of the most talked-about topics after the conclusion of the 2024/25 season.

What now remains is SuperSport's history, players they produced and titles they won.

    WHAT NEXT FOR SIWELELE?

The new outfit will begin their new campaign with a home game against Golden Arrows on August 9 at the Molemela Stadium.

The gruelling PSL campaign is set to test Siwelele's readiness to the core, and fans will be eager to see whether they will impress, struggle, or become a mid-table outfit.

With the PSL 2025/26 schedule already confirmed, Le’John's club has a full view of the season, who they will play and when, and now what remains is to prepare adequately for that.
