    WHAT HAPPENED?

Jose Riveiro recently joined Al Ahly after leaving his role as Orlando Pirates coach, a job he spent three seasons in.

The Spaniard is now at the 2025 Fifa Club World Cup with the Cairo giants, and expectations are high on him to make the club recognised at the global club tournament.

Former Al Ahly midfielder Yasser Radwan has called for patience on Riveiro.

    WHAT RADWAN SAID

"The result of the friendly match against Pachuca cannot affect the players' performance in upcoming matches," said Radwan as per Soccer Laduma.

"On the contrary, some negatives and positives may emerge that the coach can exploit.

"It is very difficult to evaluate a coach after his first match, five days after assuming responsibility," he added.

"In my opinion, you cannot be evaluated even after the Club World Cup, because the coach needs a period of time for the players to master the method and style of play."

    THE BIGGER PICTURE

While Radwan is backing Riveiro and calling for patience on the Spaniard, Al Ahly fans might not share similar sentiments.

This is a club known for not being patient with their coaches, even after they have won major trophies for the club, like Pitso Mosimane and Marcel Koller, who each won back-to-back Caf Champions League titles but became villains overnight.

That makes the Club World Cup a yardstick for Al Ahly fans to measure Riveiro's capabilities.

    WHAT NEXT FOR RIVEIRO?

Riveiro's first competitive match in charge of Al Ahly will be against Lionel Messi's Inter Miami on Sunday.

It is a match the Cairo giants would be pressed to win and set the theme ahead of their other Club World Cup group matches against Palmeiras and FC Porto.
