    WHAT HAPPENED?

Golden Arrows recently parted ways with striker Knox Mutizwa amid rumours that he has fallen out of favour with coach Manqoba Mngqithi.

The Zimbabwean left Arrows as the highest scorer in the history of the club, although his exit was been unceremonious.

Former Kaizer Chiefs forward Siyabonga Nomvethe sees Mutizwa's Abafana Bes'thende departure as an opportunity for the Soweto giants to sign the player.

    WHAT NOMVETHE SAID

"Mutizwa is a good striker and a perfect match for Kaizer Chiefs," Nomvethe told KickOff.

"You can see how Golden Arrows have struggled in his absence; I wouldn’t mind if Chiefs signed him.  Mutizwa is a quality striker who knows how to score. Chiefs should sign him now. At 31, he should be at the peak of his career, and his experience could greatly benefit Kaizer Chiefs.

"You can have young players, but in certain situations, a lack of experience can hinder the conversion of scoring opportunities," added the former Bafana Bafana forward.

"As a Chiefs player, you need to work hard because it's a big club. Playing for Chiefs is not a vacation; you have to perform well. Scoring goals is the only way to keep Kaizer Chiefs supporters happy.

"Mutizwa's awareness inside the box can help Kaizer Chiefs immensely. He is clinical, he understands the game, and when he wants to score, he often does. He is a talented striker who isn’t greedy and can capitalise on even the smallest chances to find the net.”

    THE BIGGER PICTURE

Mutizwa was fired at a time when Golden Arrows need a prolific striker to save them from Premier Soccer League relegation.

The 31-year-old scored a club record 63 goals in 231 matches during his time with the KwaZulu-Natal side.

Abafana Bes'thende are 14th on the PSL standings with three points more than 15th-placed Cape Town City, who are occupying a play-offs spot.

If Chiefs sign Mutizwa, they will have a striker who surpassed the 10-goal mark just once in the league when he scored 13 goals during the 2019/20 season.

The Soweto giants are in the hunt for a prolific striker and the last man to score more than 10 PSL goals was Samir Nurkovic during the same season Mutizwa found the back of the net 13 times in the league.

    WHAT NEXT FOR MUTIZWA?

The former Bidvest Wits is a free agent and a club that wants him will not have to worry about forking out money for the transfer fee.

That would make good business for a team that signs him, even if it might be a gamble.
