Orlando Pirates kept alive their chances of winning their second crown this season with a hard-fought 1-0 Carling Knockout win over Siwelele on Saturday at the Orlando Stadium.

    THE BIGGER PICTURE

The Bafana Bafana centre-back put up a decent shift at the back and gave more in his bid to ensure the Soweto giants advance.

Usually, fans vote for a player they feel deserves a R100,000 Man-of-the-Match reward.

The majority voted for Oswin Appollis, who was shocked by the supporters' decision to select him for the award.

He has now promised to share the money with his captain, since he believes he deserves it.

  • WHAT APPOLLIS SAID

“Yes, we had to fight today [Saturday], you know. It wasn’t easy," the former Polokwane winger said in his post-match interview.

"What a brilliant goal from Mbokazi. To be honest, I didn’t deserve it [Man-of-the-Match Award] more than he did because he was fighting and defending.

"I’m definitely going to cut my share because what a goal! I will share it with him," Appollis continued.

“It was difficult today, but we knew that we would get a chance. Like I said, what an amazing goal! Congratulations to the boys and the whole team for their hard work today.

We are happy that we came out victorious.

“The coach told us about not getting further in this cup, but I believe that with the players we have, we can go further in this competition," he concluded.

    WHAT NEXT?

Having won the MTN8 for the fourth time in a row, Pirates are again just three wins away from the Carling Knockout glory.

Coach Abdeslam Ouaddou and his men are surely psyched up to go all the way, since they have enough players and the needed depth to deliver.
