A rocket from Mbekezeli Mbokazi was all Orlando Pirates needed to silence Siwelele in the Carling Knockout Round of 16 game staged at the Orlando Stadium on Saturday.

It started well for the hosts, who won a penalty in the 3rd minute as Eveidence Makgopa, who was keen on tapping in a brilliant cut-back from Relebohile Mofokeng, was brought down by Keabetswe Khonyane.

The Bafana Bafana striker took the spot kick well, but despite sending the goalkeeper the wrong way, the woodwork denied him.

Tshepang Moremi was also to blame in the stroke of halftime as he failed to tap in a cross from the right thanks to Makgopa, who had done well to get the ball into the danger zone.

Chances were limited in the second half as Siwelele looked to have mastered the art of stopping Bucs from getting into the danger zone.

It looked like the game would go to extra time, before a moment of individual brilliance from Mbekezeli Mbokazi in the 87th minute sent his team to the last eight as Pirates won 1-0 on the day.

    THE MVP

At just 19, Mbekezeli Mbokazi is literally having the world on his feet owing to his consistent performance for Bafana Bafana and Pirates.

The goal was massive for the teenager who delivered when Bucs needed him most; arguably the biggest goal he has ever scored in his career.

    THE BIG LOSER

Evidence Makgopa could have cost his team a chance to advance owing to his struggles on Saturday.

After missing a penalty, he failed to tap in from close range after Deon Hotto had done all the donkey work.

He has to work on his finishing.

    WHAT COMES NEXT?

The club football season takes a break for two weeks, paving the way for the international break, during which Pirates have several players representing Bafana Bafana who will play Zimbabwe and Rwanda, respectively, in the FIFA World Cup qualifiers.

After that, Bucs will play Polokwane City on Tuesday, October 21, hoping to extend their winning run in the Premier Soccer League to six matches in a row.

Lehlohonolo Seema's men will resume club football with a tough fixture against Kaizer Chiefs on Wednesday, October 22.
