"Manchester City were also interested, but if Mourinho calls you, you can’t say no.

"You can’t say no to Barca either. It just didn’t happen because the interest was not public or so explicit."

Solskjaer expecting quiet January window for Man Utd

Manchester United boss Ole Gunnar Solskjaer is not expecting any major transfer business in the January window.

Speaking in his pre-match press conference, the Norwegian told reporters: "It's hard to predict what the financial situation is, if teams need to sell or if they have got money to buy.

"I don't predict a lot of ins and outs, to be fair.

"The world, financially, and the football world has changed as well, it depends on the injury situations at teams. I feel very happy with my squad, we're getting stronger. I still have issues every week when we only have an 18-man squad: who do I leave out? I feel we're in a good position."

Guardiola: Man City will have fair talks with Aguero over contract

Pep Guardiola says Manchester City have plenty of time to have "fair talks" with Sergio Aguero over his future and first wants the striker to get back to full fitness.

"He's going to give us a good moment this season," the City boss said ahead of Saturday’s Premier League clash with Burnley when asked about contract talks. "He is still not in his best condition - we cannot forget how long he was injured and come back and then injured again.

"In the middle of the season, he's a guy who needs to be so sharp but the quality to score in the box is always there, always was and always will be. We don't have doubts about that, but he needs a little bit of time to get in the training sessions and the minutes [on the pitch], and after we have seven months ahead.

"He's a guy who deserves with the club, fair talks to do what is the best for him for the club and for everyone. In that you should not doubt.

"As I said many times, I was lucky to play as a football player and manager with incredible football players. He's one of these ones, for sure, but especially as a human being. I never found a bigger star like him to be to be like Sergio is."

‘Real Madrid should spend Haaland money on five signings’

Real Madrid should be resisting the urge to spend big on the likes of Erling Haaland and instead invest any transfer funds available to them on “four or five” new signings, says Michel.

The Blancos legend told El Larguero: "I like Haaland a lot and he’s progressing very well. He scores goals from all over the pitch, not just in the area. But Madrid need an injection of four or five players."

Celtic summer signing suffering 'lack of confidence'

Former Scotland manager Alex McLeish has lamented the form of Celtic striker Albian Ajeti after he failed to score again on Thursday night.

Ajeti, a £4.5m summer acquisition from West Ham, has not netted since September and drew another blank as Celtic were hammered 4-1 by Sparta Prague to crash out of the Europa League.

McLeish told Football Insider: “Listen, this is not a playground, you know, we are talking top professionals and top demands and an expectation.

“I’ve seen Ajeti score goals right at the start and maybe he just lost his momentum or confidence. You know, we often forget that these guys are human beings and they do have emotions."

Lampard's methods resemble Football Manager - that's why Chelsea are title challengers

The Blues boss' tactics are more reminiscent of the pre-Conte era

Chelsea are eclectic, curious, entertainingly flawed. They are also two points of the top of the table. Therefore, they are title contenders.

Welcome to Covid-19 football: a simpler game defined by broad tactical brushstrokes, by decision-making that resembles Football Manager more than it ought to.

Frank Lampard has spent big, plugged gaps with big names, and it seems to be working. Alex Keble takes a closer look.
