Kaizer Chiefs accept Maize Cup invitation and learn opponents

Kaizer Chiefs will take part in this year's Maize Cup tournament after accepting the invitation to replace Orlando Pirates

The one-day tournament will consist of four teams - three from the PSL as well as Township Rollers from Botswana.

The draw was conducted in Klerksdorp on Tuesday, with Platinum Stars drawn aganst Free State Stars in the first match and Amakhosi pitted against Rollers for the second semi-final.

Kickoff for the first semi-final will be at 10am, while the second match will get underway at 12 noon at the James Motlatsi Stadium on July 15. 

Chiefs and Rollers have met before, but it was in the Caf Champions League two years ago, where the Soweto giants advanced to the first round of the continental competition with a 3-1 aggregate win. 

The Maize Cup tournament will come 14 days before the Carlng Black Label Cup match between Chiefs and Pirates, meaning Steve Komphela will have enough time to get his team into shape ahead of the league's curtain-raiser.
