Gor Mahia coach Dylan Kerr has joined Harambee Stars’ tactician Sebastien Migne in his call for professionalism while running the local game.
A furious Migne went ranting about the level of ‘unprofessionalism’ in Kenyan football after Harambee Stars captain Victor Wanyama and 13 other players failed to show up for the African Cup of Nations qualifier against Ghana despite being named in the provisional squad of 38 players.
Asked whether he supports Migne’s sentiments, coach Kerr said: “He’s got to understand that this is Kenya. This is how Kenyan football is. There are a lot of hard-working people, both in KPL and FKF. They are trying to make football here…it’s called professionalism. That has always been what we want. We sometimes find it hard to get.
Kerr maintained that Gor Mahia’s exit from Caf Confederation Cup was down to lack of proper management by the league chiefs.
“We lost a chance in Confederation Cup because we were tired and were demanding that games get canceled, but it was going on deaf ears so I can understand his (Migne) issue, but that’s why we are here to try and change the mentality, try to help and progress going forward.
“We are both football coaches and we want what’s best for the country and my club. If we work together and we have a plan-we make it more professional, then kids will grow up and they will understand what’s like to be a professional player and that’s what we ask. Be honest, be professional.”
Stars, who beat Ghana 1-0 on Saturday, will take on Malawi in an international friendly at Kasarani on Tuesday.
