Betting: Where is the value in the Football League promotion races?

Promotion can change a club's history forever - especially if the prize is a spot in the Premier League - and with the Football League season approaching the home straight, each table is beginning to take shape.

Here's a look at each division with a selection to take the next step up in their footballing journey at the end of the current campaign.

The Championship: Bristol City to be promoted at 5/1 with bet365

Bristol City are on the best run of form of any team in the Football League with nine wins in a row in all competitions and no losses in their last 15 games. The Robins are currently seven points off of the top two but they do have a game in hand on Norwich City. 

Lee Johnson's men narrowly missed out on the top six last year and despite having key players such as Bobby Reid, Aden Flint and Joe Bryan acquired by bigger clubs, they look better than ever this season.

Odds of 5/1 (6.0) with bet365 represent incredible value for the red-hot side to win promotion to the Premier League. On current form they are a shoo-in for the play-offs and they can easily make up ground on the automatic promotion places, with Leeds' recent dip in form and Norwich perhaps feeling the pressure after their 3-1 loss to Preston.

Johnson's team travel to Carrow Road on the February 23 and if they pick up a win there, their odds for automatic promotion will be slashed so now is the best time to take the 5/1 (6.0) Bristol City to secure promotion to the Premier League.

League One: Portsmouth to be promoted at 11/10 with bet365

The promotion race in League One is hotting up with Luton, Barnsley, Sunderland and Portsmouth all battling it out for a top-two finish.

Leaders Luton are just 1/10 (1.10) to go up with Barnsley at 1/3 (1.33) but the 11/10 (2.10) on Portsmouth spoiling their party and nicking a spot in the top two looks the bet.

There's no denying that the south coast side have been off-colour as of late but if they can rediscover their form from the start of the season then there is no reason Pompey can't make up the three-point gap between themselves and second spot. 

The squad is filled with top League One talent and a strike partnership of Omar Bogle and Brett Pitman should trouble any defence in the third tier. Kenny Jackett's men are definitely good enough to be promoted and their recent results have seen them drift to a very good price to reclaim a spot in the Championship.

League Two: Oldham to be promoted at 9/1 with bet365

With little appealing at the top end of the market it could be worth a small stake on a relative outsider as the season reaches a conclusion.

Oldham spent 21 years in League One before they were relegated and they will hope to get back to more familiar surroundings as soon as possible.

Only sitting 11th in the table, the Latics' route back to the third tier will likely have to be through the play-offs and odds of 9/1 (10.0) to go up do look appealing.

It is a gamble that Paul Scholes will come in a revolutionise the club, but he is a former top level player and has supported Oldham his whole life so there will be no questions over his motivation to improve matters on the pitch.

The appointment means the fans are finally back behind the team and the squad has the talent to make up the gap to the top seven. That currently stands at six points with the Latics also having a game in hand over most of those above them.

Scholes won his first game in charge 4-1 and the squad is good enough to battle it out for promotion with the likes of Jose Baxter, Peter Clarke and Giles Coke. It is a long shot but there is value in this bet at 9/1 (10.0) with bet365.
