Betting Tips: The best data-led bets for the weekend's Football League action

Although the Premier League is English football's main attraction there are many good value bets to be found in the Football League.

Using Opta's industry-leading data, we've picked out three selections from the Championship, League One and Two.

Birmingham City vs Middlesbrough - Middlesbrough to win at 7/4

Middlesbrough at 7/4 (2.75) with bet365 look good value as these two sides clash for the second time this season.

Boro manager Tony Pulis has won each of his last three matches against Birmingham in all competitions. The hosts have lost each of their last three Championship matches against Middlesbrough too, failing to score in each of those games.

On top of that recent record Middlesbrough's most important player has had great success against Birmingham in the past. Britt Assombalonga has scored five goals in five Championship starts against the Blues.

Although Birmingham have done well this season they have been overly reliant on Lukas Jutkiewicz, who has had a direct hand in 18 league goals this season (10 goals, 8 assists) – no Blues’ player has been directly involved in more within a single Championship season. The visitors should be able to nullify his aerial threat though with Aden Flint, Ryan Shotton and Daniel Ayala all likely to start.

Bristol City vs Bolton Wanderers - Bristol City to win at 8/15

Even though the odds are quite short on this one Bristol City look like a banker selection to beat Bolton at 8/15 (1.53)

The favourites have won their last two home Championship games against Bolton by an aggregate score of 8-0. On top of that, the Robins are unbeaten in their last eight league games, the joint-current longest run in the division.

One man who won't be looking forward to this game is Bolton boss Phil Parkinson, who has never won an away league match at Ashton Gate as a manager in seven attempts.

Burton Albion vs Gillingham - Burton to win at 3/5 (1.60)

Despite being thrashed 9-0 by Manchester City midweek Burton Albion should be able to bounce back and beat Gillingham at odds of 3/5 (1.60).

Burton are unbeaten in their four home league games against Gillingham (W3 D1), winning each of the last three.

The Brewers usually find some success in the final third when this pair meet. Gillingham haven’t kept a clean sheet against Burton since their first ever meeting in the Football League in September 2010, failing to keep them at bay in the following eight clashes.

Burton Albion have been in good form in this competition themselves, keeping back-to-back clean sheets in League One for the first time since 2016.
