  • WHAT HAPPENED?

The Gunners were facing calls for additions to be made in the final third of the field prior to losing Brazil international forward Gabriel Jesus. Confirmation that the South American has suffered season-ending knee ligament damage has heightened the need to get fresh bodies on board.

    THE BIGGER PICTURE

Arsenal were able to find two goals in their latest derby date with north London rivals Tottenham, as Gabriel Magalhaes forced Dominic Solanke to deflect into his own net and Leandro Trossard drilled home what proved to be the winner, but more firepower is required in order to land the Premier League title.

  • WHAT ARTETA SAID

Arteta has now conceded as much, telling TNT Sports when asked if he wants to bring in another attacker: “Yes, for sure. Because we lost two players, big players, Bukayo [Saka] - that can be out for up to three months, so that’s a long time - and Gabby [Jesus], that’s going to be out for a long, long, long time. We are going to try, for sure. We are actively looking at. I think we have lost two very important players, we have 14 players in the squad, and we play every three days. We will try, but let’s see who we can get.”

    DID YOU KNOW?

Arteta had told reporters prior to a meeting with Spurs: “We know who we want to sign. We have very clear ideas of the players that we want, yes. It was before Gabriel Jesus' injury and it was with Gabby injured right now and we have to wait and see how things develop.”

  • WHAT NEXT FOR ARSENAL?

Arsenal will hope to land one of their top targets as soon as possible, with a 2-1 derby victory seeing them close to within four points of table-topping Liverpool. They will be back in action on Saturday when playing host to Aston Villa.
