Thanks for joining our commentary today. Until next time, goodbye.
The Netherlands will now face the runners-up from Group B in the round of 16 on Saturday.
The Netherlands are safely through to the World Cup round of 16 courtesy of a 2-0 win over Qatar in their final Group A game. Goals from Cody Gakpo and Frenkie de Jong secured the three points for the Oranje to send them into the next round as group winners. They were never troubled by Qatar, who ended their campaign with three defeats.
90' + 6' Ahmed Alaa tries to thread a cross-field pass towards Muntari, but Timber is alert to make the interception on the edge of the box.
90' + 4' Qatar have put forward plenty of effort today, but have sorely lacked the quality in the final third to put the Netherlands under pressure.
90' + 2' OFF THE BAR! Berghuis collects an offload from Weghorst and curls a left-footed strike towards the top corner. Barsham is beaten, but the ball rattles the crossbar before heading over.
90' Khoukhi rises to attack a free-kick from Afif into the inside-right channel. He does well to make contact with a header, but his effort is tame and is claimed with ease by Noppert.
90' There will be six minutes of added time.
89' Qatar's journey at the World Cup is nearing an end. They have one minute plus stoppage time to try to end it on a positive note.
88' Afif resists a strike from distance and opts to tee up Pedro instead, but he fires a poor effort well wide of the left post.
K. Taylor
F. de Jong
86' De Jong makes way after scoring the second goal. Taylor replaces the Barcelona man in the middle of the park.
86' The changes are coming thick and fast as the game is starting to resemble a pre-season friendly. The Netherlands are very comfortable here.
Ahmed Alaa
Abdulaziz Hatem
85' Ahmed Alaa comes on for Qatar for the final minutes as he replaces Hatem.
Musaab Khidir
Ismaeel Mohammad
85' Khidir replaces Mohammad at wing-back for Qatar.
W. Weghorst
C. Gakpo
83' Gakpo is withdrawn after another fine performance, including his third goal of the tournament. Weghorst replaces him up front.
T. Koopmeiners
M. de Roon
83' Koopmeiners enters the game in the middle of the park to replace De Roon for the closing stages.
82' Muntari steers the ball into the net from close range, but the whistle goes long before for a foul on Van Dijk by the forward.
80' Afif surges down the left flank and has Muntari in space in the box, but Noppert sticks out a boot to divert his low cross away from danger.
79' Berghuis and Gakpo combine on the edge of the Qatar box, but the former takes a poor touch as he shapes to shoot and loses possession to Khouki.
77' Hatem bursts forward from the Qatar midfield and has space for a strike from 25 yards. However, his effort is tame and rolls into the hands of Noppert.
76' Berghuis launches a long ball forward towards Gakpo, but he can only nod the ball down to Barsham as Janssen tries to latch on to the header.
73' Muntari battles with Timber and draws a foul from the Netherlands full-back. There has been no shortage of effort today from the host nation, but the quality and strategy has not been there.
70' Qatar have offered very little in the second half. They've been lacklustre in the final third and have not been able to trouble Noppert.
68' VAR! The Netherlands see a goal disallowed for handball as Gakpo handles in the build-up before Janssen offloads to Berghuis to convert from close range.
V. Janssen
M. Depay
66' Janssen enters the fold to replace Depay in the final third. Depay had an hour to regain his fitness and will be all the better for it ahead of the round of 16.
S. Berghuis
D. Klaassen
66' Klaassen is withdrawn after notching an assist in the first half for Gakpo's goal. Berghuis replaces the midfielder.
Ali Asad
Hassan Al Haydos

Mohammed Muntari
Almoez Ali
64' Muntari, who scored last time out against Senegal, replaces Ali in the final third.
Karim Boudiaf
Assim Madibo
64' Boudiaf enters the action in the Qatar midfield for Madibo.
63' Ahmed has space down the left flank and angles a cross into the box. There is a lack of Qatar players in the middle and Noppert makes an early shout to claim ahead of Van Dijk.
62' The game is being played at a pretty sedate pace. The Netherlands players will be watching every step now with an eye to the next round.
60' Afif sends Pedro down the right flank, but with white shirts in the box, he overhits his delivery out to the left flank.
58' De Jong scored just his second ever goal for the Dutch national side and first since September 2019 against Germany.
56' Ali sends Hassan down the left flank and he waits for white shirts to move into the middle. He delivers a decent low cross into the middle that flashes across the face of goal and travels out.
55' Afif is played behind the Netherlands defence down the left flank, but there are no runners in support in the box, forcing the forward backwards.
53' Van Gaal's team are surely on their way to the round of 16 now as Group A winners. It has been a professional performance today.
N. Aké
Yellow Card
52' Ake catches Mohammad with a late challenge in the air and goes into the book.
51' Qatar have conceded two goals in the first 15 minutes of the second half, no team has conceded more in the 2022 World Cup.
F. de Jong
49' GOALLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLL!!!! DE JONG SCORES ON THE REBOUND!!!!! 2-0 NETHERLANDS!!!!!! De Jong pounces from close range to double Netherlands' lead. Klaassen whips a cross to the back post that finds Depay, who fires at goal from point-blank range. Barsham makes a great reaction stop, but De Jong is first to the rebound and steers a strike into an empty net.
48' Ake makes an important clearance in the middle again as he steers a low delivery from Mohammad away from danger.
46' Qatar win a free-kick down the left flank that Afif whips deep to the back post. Ake rises and heads clear into touch for the Oranje.
46' We're back under way at the Al Bayt Stadium.
Louis van Gaal will be satisfied with his side's performance in the first half. He might want to see a little bit more intensity in the final third ahead of the round of 16, where his side will have to step up their game if they want to make a deep run in the competition.
The Netherlands are on course to advance to the next round of the World Cup, holding a 1-0 lead over Qatar at the break in their final Group A game. Cody Gakpo opened the scoring with a neat run and finish to notch his third goal of the competition. The Oranje have been in complete control, outside of a few half-chances for Qatar from distance.
45' + 3' WIDE! Madibo loses possession and it allows Klaasssen to release Depay on the edge of the box. He fires at goal on his right foot, but drags his attempt wide of the left post.
45' + 2' The Netherlands appear to be playing for the interval by knocking the ball around at the back. They're very much in control of proceedings.
45' There will be three minutes of added time.
44' UPDATE: Senegal have taken a 1-0 lead against Ecuador in the other Group A contest.
43' Qatar have enjoyed spells on the ball, but have not made the Netherlands uncomfortable at the back. It has been fairly routine for the Oranje so far.

39' Madibo catches Depay on the boot and the forward goes down in pain. However, he soon gets back to his feet to the relief of Van Gaal on the sideline.
38' Qatar are finding space with the ball in the final third, but are lacking quality with their final ball into the Netherlands box.
36' Afif runs down the right flank and fires a cross towards Ali, but he cannot steer it back to Madibo in support on the edge of the box.
35' Al Haydos releases Hassan down the left flank with a sublime flick, but there's no white shirt in the box to attack his low cross that Van Dijk hammers away.
32' Gakpo is only the second player to open the scoring three times in the same group stage of a World Cup, after Alessandro Altobelli for Italy in the group stage in 1986.
31' The Netherlands have control of the game now and are surely booking their place in the next round of the competition. Van Gaal will want to ensure that his side are taking top spot though.
29' SAVE! Klaassen gives the ball away and allows Mohammad to run at the Netherlands defence. He shoots from the edge of the box, but Noppert watches it all the way into his hands.
28' Gakpo has put the Netherlands 1-0 up in all three of their games at the 2022 World Cup. He's just the fourth player to score in three consecutive World Cup appearances for the Dutch national side: also Johan Neeskens (1974), Dennis Bergkamp (1994) and Wesley Sneijder (2010).
D. Klaassen
26' Klaassen works a neat offload into the feet of Gakpo, who does the rest with a fine finish.
C. Gakpo

The Oranje take the lead as Gakpo takes Klaassen's pass in his stride before firing a low effort into the bottom-right corner. Gakpo takes his World Cup tally to three goals as Klaassen works an offload inside for his run on the edge of the box. He takes a good touch before steering his effort on the stretch past Barsham.
26' Blind sends a perfect pass over the top for Depay that the forward takes in stride with a neat turn, but his effort is blocked by Pedro.
25' OVER! Hassan attacks a low corner from Afif, but he steers his first-time strike on his right foot over the bar.
24' Qatar keep the pressure on as Al Haydos works a reverse to Ahmed in space. He angles a cross deep to the back post that Van Dijk has to head behind.
23' Ahmed wins the ball in an aerial challenge with Dumfries and keeps Qatar moving down the left flank. He receives the ball again from Afif and wins a corner off Timber.
21' Qatar have a rare foray forward down the left flank, but Afif sends his cutback to the edge of the box away from the white shirts in support, allowing the Oranje to clear.
20' Ahmed gets caught underneath the ball and stretches up with an arm to prevent it bouncing behind him. He somehow avoids a booking for deliberate handball.
19' WIDE! Klaassen rises to attack Depay's corner from the right flank, but he steers his header wide of the left post.
18' Klaassen continues to stroll around the final third and he wins a corner after latching onto Dumfries' pass in the inside-right channel.
17' Blind rolls an offload towards Depay on the edge of the box, but the forward is penalised for backing into Pedro. He is not happy with the decision.
15' Dumfries looks for space down the right flank and fires a low ball towards the near post that is deflected behind for a Netherlands corner.
14' OVER! Klaassen floats a ball over the top for the run of Depay in the box, but he hooks his strike over the bar with a first-time attempt.
13' Klaassen tries to bundle his way through the Qatar defence, but he loses out on the edge of the box before he can threaten.
12' Blind breaks down the left flank and has space and time to deliver a cross. However, the Qatar defence repel the threat as the ball bounces off two defenders and into the hands of Barsham.
10' Afif launches a cross into the box from the right flank that Khoukhi heads towards the middle, but Van Dijk reacts first to clear the danger.
9' Mohammad and Blind have a clash of heads down the right flank for the hosts. Qatar get the free-kick.
8' De Jong probes in the final third and he hooks a cross towards Klaassen, but he cannot nod an effort towards goal. Play is stopped for a clash of heads between Klaassen and Ahmed.
7' Mohammad is back on his feet and ready to resume the game.
5' Mohammad is down with a head injury for the hosts and play has to be halted for him to receive treatment.
4' CHANCE! Klaassen threads a ball through to Depay in the inside-left channel. He opts against the first-time strike, but sees his eventual effort blocked by Barsham and a host of defenders before Blind bundles a shot wide on the follow-up.
3' SAVE! De Roon gives the ball away in the Netherlands half and Al Haydos makes the interception. He surges to the edge of the box, but sees his drive held by Noppert.
2' Depay tries to latch onto a ball over top on the stretch in the Qatar box, but it evades his boot and travels out for a goal-kick.
1' We're under way at the Al Bayt Stadium.
The Netherlands have won all four of their FIFA World Cup matches against Asian sides, scoring 11 goals and conceding just once. This is their first ever meeting with Qatar in any competition.
Qatar have made one change to their side from their defeat at the hands of Senegal. Boudiaf makes way from the midfield and is replaced by Hatem. Barsham retains his place between the posts ahead of Al-Sheeb.
The Dutch have made two changes to their side from their draw against Ecuador last time out. Depay is called into the starting line-up for the first time at the tournament in place of Bergwijn, who drops to the bench. De Roon gets the nod in the middle of the park as Koopmeiners drops out of the side.

Qatar are already bowing out of the tournament at the group stage having lost their first two matches. They were soundly beaten by both Ecuador and Senegal, although Mohammed Muntari did make history by scoring Qatar's first World Cup goal. Coach Felix Sanchez will be determined to bow out on a high note, but the host nation face their biggest challenge to date.
The Netherlands need only a point to secure their place in the second round of the tournament after taking four points from their opening two matches. After beating Senegal in their opener, the Oranje played out a 1-1 draw against Ecuador in their last outing as Enner Valencia cancelled out Cody Gakpo's opener. Louis van Gaal will be targeting first place in the group and a victory by a comfortable margin would likely guarantee that spot.
