Victor Wanyama to miss Harambee Stars friendlies

Victor Wanyama will sit out during the next Harambee Stars test matches against Swaziland and Equatorial Guinea respectively.

The Kenya national team skipper says he needs time to fully recover from the injury that kept him out of a good number of Tottenham matches in the Premier League.

“I have been out for a very long period, I just returned recently and played a few games. I need time to gain back my strength.

“My doctor at Tottenham has already communicated with Harambee Stars doctor, so it’s clear that I will not take part in the next friendlies,” Wanyama told Goal.

The former Southampton ace was expected to join Stars' camp for the first time since the appointment of new tactician Sebastian Migne. Harambee Stars is scheduled to play Swaziland on Saturday before tackling Equatorial Guinea on Monday at Machakos Stadium.

Both matches will be the first taste of Kenyan football for new coach Migne following the departure of Belgian Paul Put. The 'Big Vic' now 26, was on Wednesday unveiled as the Multi Choice Kenya ambassador for DSTV Connect with Greatness.

He will be conducting soccer clinics to inspire young footballers in Kenya during the Connect with Greatness campaign.
