The Glamour Boys' habit of settling for a share of the spoils has become a concern as the Soweto giants look to keep pace with the teams leading the Betway Premiership. Amakhosi legend Neil Tovey has called for patience with the head coach, but believes the Naturena-based team must start turning draws into wins if they are to stay in the title conversation.
Amakhosi have been handed a significant injury concern after young attacker Luke Baartman was forced off during South Africa U23’s international friendly against Algeria. The promising forward was unable to complete the first half, adding to the growing list of fitness worries for the Glamour Boys medical staff.
The Zimbabwean forward has emerged as the breakout star of the Betway Premiership this season, propelling Usuthu into the upper reaches of the table. His ruthless efficiency in front of goal has now caught the eye of legendary figures within the South African game.
The 27-year-old has established himself as one of the most clinical finishers in the Premier Soccer League, but his international aspirations remain clouded by a perceived bias against African-based talent. Amakhosi could be set to integrate another academy gem into the senior setup following a stunning COSAFA U20 tournament for Steven Mendes. The young midfielder has returned to Naturena with his stock at an all-time high after spearheading South Africa's youth success on the regional stage.
The brutal nature of the Betway Premiership has claimed another managerial casualty as Durban City FC have reportedly parted ways with Khalil Ben Youssef. The former Kaizer Chiefs man, who was only appointed to the role three months ago, has been relieved of his duties despite leading the club through a continental campaign.
