The 24-year-old possesses similar defensive attributes to the former England man and claims he “had everything a defender needed”.

He also revealed his other footballing idols with the likes of Zinedine Zidane and Ronaldinho featuring prominently on his list of all-time greats.

“I loved watching Zidane. I loved watching Ronaldinho and when I became a defender I loved Ferdinand," Mustafi told Goal.

“He was always there, screaming, tackling playing. He had everything a defender needed."

Mustafi has yet to lose a game during his first few months at Arsenal and is part of a back four which has conceded just 19 goals in 20 matches.
