The City defender believes it's clear his team currently has the bragging rights in Melbourne ahead of the derby

Melbourne City defender Scott Jamieson has declared his team as superior to rivals Melbourne Victory ahead of Saturday night's Christmas derby at AAMI Park.

City are currently in third position, six points clear of fifth-placed Victory, and were winners 2-1 in the first derby of the season back in October.

Jamieson, who joined City this season after a stint with Sweden's IFK Goteborg, is adamant the A-League ladders proves City's standing and says Victory are predictable.

However, the 29-year-old also urged caution ahead of the derby, with Victory showing signs of returning to their best form with a 2-1 away win against Brisbane Roar last weekend.

"I’d like to think we’re the No.1 team in Melbourne going off the table at the moment (City is third, Melbourne Victory is fifth),’’ Jamieson said.

"The table doesn’t lie, and we’re above them at the moment. They’re a good team, let’s not kid ourselves. They’re a good team, with good individuals that have had mixed results.

"But we know how they play, we know their patterns.

"So let’s just go at them and have a good old-fashioned scrap on Saturday night."

City are likely to be boosted by the return from injury of winger Bruce Kamau, who scored the winner in the last derby, while Victory are hoping marquee midfielder Mark Milligan has recovered from a hamstring complaint.

Victory have overall bragging rights in the fixture, having won 10 of the 24 derbies compared to City's nine.
