Roar to discover ACL play-off opponent

Brisbane Roar's qualifying route for the 2017 AFC Champions League (ACL) will be finalised on Tuesday when Global FC of the Philippines host Singapore's Tampines Rovers.

The 2017 ACL will officially kick-off this week with the first preliminary round as Filipino champions Global welcome their Singaporean opponents to Rizal Memorial Stadium in Manila.

The winner will progress to play Roar at Suncorp Stadium on January 31 with Brisbane hoping to advance to the final play-off round where they would take on Carlos Tevez's new club Shanghai Shenhua on February 8.

Global have a rather incredible history with the club having only been founded as a social team in 2000.

The club's meteoric rise has seen them become the first from the Philippines to participate in the ACL at any level, while they were also their nation's first AFC Cup entrants in 2015.

Perth Glory played Global in pre-season and were held to a scoreless draw during their tour of the Philippines.

Tampines Rovers qualified for the ACL after they finished second in the S-League in 2016.

S-League champions Albirex Niigata, who are the satellite team of the J.League of the same name, were ineligible to qualify for continental competitions.

Last year, Tampines Rovers lost to India's Mohun Bagan at the same stage of ACL qualifying.
