The odds about the 24-year-old Manchester City forward scooping the individual prize have been cut once more after impressing on international duty

While Virgil van Dijk has been the long-term frontrunner for the PFA Player of the Year award, the Liverpool defender could face a fast finishing rival in Raheem Sterling.

With voting underway for the 2019 prize, the Manchester City forward has put in some eye-catching performances in recent weeks.

The 24-year-old netted a hat-trick in the 5-0 win over Czech Republic at Wembley on Friday, the first by an England player at the stadium since Jermain Defoe in September 2010. He also added the final goal in the 5-1 win over Montenegro.

As a result of those dazzling displays, 888Sport have cut Sterling to 6/1 (7.0) to win the invidual award, which is voted for by representatives of the 92 Football League clubs plus 10 WSL teams.

The Three Lions star shone on the international stage, but his domestic showings have also been of the highest calibre of late. Before his most recent Premier League outing on March 9, Sterling was 14/1 (15.0) but that price is long gone.

A hat-trick against Watford in that game moved Sterling onto 15 top-flight goals for the season. At 25/1 (26.0) the forward is still a relative outsider for the Golden Boot prize, where he trails clubmate Sergio Aguero (6/4) by three strikes with just eight games remaining.

With Pep Guardiola's side still eyeing an unprecedented quadruple of titles, it could be be a season filled with silverware for the Citizens having already lifted the Carabao Cup.

The PFA Player of the Year ceremony takes place in April though, with voting taking place several weeks before that so representatives will have to make their choices based on what they've seen to date.

Despite a late surge from Sterling, van Dijk remains firm favourite for the top honour at 1/3 (1.33) . The Liverpool centre-back has overseen a Reds defence that has conceded just 18 times in 31 top-flight games this term.

Van Dijk has also scored five times in all competitions for Jurgen Klopp's side this term as they target success domestically and in the Premier League.

In a market dominated by the leading top-flight duo, Aguero is a 6/1 (7.0) chance with 888Sport as the Argentine tops the scoring charts at the time of writing.

Sadio Mane is a 20/1 (21.0) chance having spearheaded Liverpool's attacking charge in recent weeks while last season's winner Mohamed Salah is a distant 25/1 (26.0) to retain the award.

Having racked up 17 goals this term, leaving him only one behind Aguero, Salah has gone five Premier League games without a goal and that dip in form is unlikely to win him much support given the timeframe of the voting.

Despite playing over 200 Premier League games since his emergence at Liverpool, Sterling is still eligible for the Young Player of the Year prize as he was 23 at the start of the season. 888Sport make him just 2/5 (1.40) to win that prize ahead of Marcus Rashford (11/4) , Bernardo Silva (9/1) and Declan Rice (14/1).
