    THE BIGGER PICTURE

According to SABC Sport, Kaizer Chiefs sponsors Kappa, are among the frontrunners to replace Lecoq Sportif from January.

In 1996, when Bafana Bafana won the Africa Cup of Nations, they were under Kappa. Puma, Adidas, Nike, Macron, and Umbro are the other firms that have shown interest in the contract.

When reached for comment, Kappa South Africa's Head, Ricky Joseph denied the reports.

He further told the State Broadcaster that they are happy serving Amakhosi, who he claims are bigger than Bafana Bafana.

    WHAT JOSEPH SAID

"You know the truth is, right now we believe we've got the biggest team in Africa. Kaizer Chiefs is bigger than the national team, to be honest with you, we would always look at partnerships with other clubs and the national team,” he stated.

“We would always consider looking at it, right now we're just happy with the Kaizer Chiefs sponsorship and that's where our focus remains at this moment in time.

"If you saw my emails and phone, we get asked by teams all the time to sponsor. So, it's really just about making sure we have the right partnerships done at the right time," Joseph continued.
He further explained why his company needs time to come up with the right product, suppose they are approached by SAFA.

"We are always open to discussing it, as I said, we need time to make the partnership work.

"And I mean, these jerseys were designed over a year ago, so everything takes time, and we wanna do it properly, should we partner with anyone else in the future," he concluded.

    WHAT NEXT?

With Bafana Bafana and Banyana Banyana delivering internationally, the sponsors have to come up with the best terms for them to be considered.

Apart from the senior teams, the junior sides are also doing quite well, and it seems things will remain so for the next couple of years.
